For the Model Senate Project we took three major, national issues and stepped into the roles of our US Senators to pass legislation to solve these issues. We began with learning about the three branches of governement and how they check and balance each other to pass bills and laws. After this we were able to learn in depth about our three issues: Student college debt, Immigration, and Climate Change. We broke into three classes to write legislation about the choosen topic that we would eventually debate in committees and on the full senate floor. We were playing as senators from different states and parties and were required to vote and speak as if our senators would. I was Patty Murray, Senator of Washington and was the Ranking Member for the Student Debt committees. I was my parties representivitve for this committee and was in charge of subcommittee meetings. We were able to pass two bills of committee and will be debating and voting on these bills as a full senate at Fort Lewis College.
